Jason Reynolds and the Radiotopia podcast network from PRX have announced the new personal podcast series “Radiotopia Presents: My Mother Made Me” set to debut Wednesday, July 13 with new episodes weekly. TRAILER

“My Mother Made Me” was an Official Selection in the narrative non-fiction category in the Tribeca Festival’s 2022 Audio Storytelling program, where the series received a world premiere in an event featuring Reynolds in conversation with “Radiolab” creator Jad Abumrad. On July 13, the series will be the first featured by “Tribeca Audio Premieres,” a new podcast championing and curating the work of today’s greatest audio artists.

For “My Mother Made Me,” writer Jason Reynolds and his mother, Isabell, explore their shared history, how she raised him, and what they continue to teach each other. Delving into profound matters such as birth, death, and spirituality, they also keep it light: pushing a cart through Costco, birthday lunches, and hitting the casino together. That’s just how they do.

“The making of this podcast has been such an incredible experience, not just due to the process of building the narrative, but also because it gave me a chance to construct new parts of my relationship with my mother,” said Jason Reynolds. “It was an opportunity to actively grow as family, and I’m excited for people to hear how this version of, I love you, sounds.

“This show is so special, and it’s been an honor to work with Jason, a master storyteller and generous collaborator, on this deeply personal project that also delves into universal life experiences and themes. We’ve fallen in love with Jason’s mom Isabell, and predict listeners everywhere will too,” said Julie Shapiro, VP of Editorial at Radiotopia and PRX and Audrey Mardavich, Senior Director of Content at Radiotopia.
