Variety announced that Wondery, which was purchased by Amazon Music in a deal that closed February 10, plans to double its staff size over the 80 they had at the end of the year.
Jen Sargent — a longtime media exec who was Wondery’s COO — became the CEO following the departure of its founder Hernan Lopez who announced he was leaving the company shortly after the deal was announced in December.
“First and foremost, we are tremendously excited about this opportunity to partner with Amazon and accelerate the growth of podcasts globally,” said Sargent, who reports to Amazon Music VP Steve Boom.
Wondery is a podcast company that focuses on narrative storytelling and true crime like hit shows Dr. Death, Bunga Bunga, Guru, Gladiator, and Business Wars, etc and many of them have been licensed for television as well.
Variety reports that Wondery plans to expand the programming lineup under its new executive to reach more diverse audiences with new genres and formats including a game show, and expanding their kids and family content.
