Dan Misener of Pacific Content just posted a blog showing a chart displaying what percentage each category of podcast has of the total amount of podcasts available under the Apple podcast categories. His reason for making it was to help people making a new podcast figure out the best category to list their podcast in so it would be easier for them to be listed as a top podcast in that category.
He suggests that if your podcast could fit in multiple categories that you choose the least popular one that you’re eligible to appear in.
The chart shows that out of the 1,651,004 shows he ran the numbers on Religion and Spirituality have the highest amount of episodes within that category and True Crime has the least.
