Why Podcasts Are No Big Deal on Smart Speakers

Amplifi Media CEO Steve Goldstein takes a crack at podcasting’s Smart Speaker weakness (only 1% of podcast listening is done on Smart Speakers). Goldstein moderated a panel on the topic at Podcast Movement last week. Here were his observations from that panel.

  • Smart speakers are not ideal for product discovery. Find-ability is a top issue suggesting that podcast listening on smart speakers should be geared at current podcast listeners.
  • Education is a critical first step so consumers know they can actually listen to podcasts on their Smart Speakers.
  • Most podcast listeners curate their listening on an app.
  • Skills and actions must be simple– Complexity is the enemy of voice commands.
  • Podcast tools could be better - Currently the native podcast listening tools are inferior to most apps.
