The New York Times ran an extensive profile of Joe Rogan and his show The Joe Rogan Experience that doesn’t give him the benefit of the doubt but explains the power he has over audiences with his say-anything credo.

In explaining the through-line in much of Mr. Rogan’s arc they quoted him describing his old show Fear Factor: “If it’s exciting and if it’s entertaining, people will watch,” he said. “If it’s not, it’ll go away.”

They detail how he straddles the line between saying something too controversial and running out of things to say while at the same time waging a war against “cancel culture” and looking at pointed things friends and former guests have said about him.
