Why Are Consumers Listening To Podcasts?

In a new report from Edison Research and NPR, the top two reasons consumers give for listening to podcasts are to be entertained and to learn new things.

The report, which surveyed 3,013 adults online, discovered that 73% of the U.S. population listened to spoken word audio in the past month. On the podcasting side, after being entertained and learning something new, the top reasons were: to stay up to date, to relax, to feel inspired, and to escape.
