In the United States, according to a new report released Tuesday by Voxnest, Religion, Culture, Sports, History and News are the top five podcast listening categories respectively. The study went on to dig deeper into whether or not listening behavior varies based on those categories. Here’s what they found out…
Voxnest says, based on their research, listening behaviors, based on the podcast’s category, differ significantly.
In the religion category Voxnest says the most popular hours are the early mornings and late evenings.
In the culture category listening was all over the board, covering all dayparts.
In the sports category, the most popular listening time is after work.
In the history category, The most popular listening time for this category is at 10 pm (5.1% of downloads/listens) and the most popular window of hours is from 7-9 pm (15.2% of downloads/listens), and a second spike of popularity occurs between the hours of 9-11 pm (14.4% of downloads/listens).
In the news and information category, the most popular listening time for this category is at 9 pm (5.9% of downloads/listens) and the most popular window of hours is from 5-8 pm (16.5% of downloads/listens), and a second spike of popularity occurs between the hours of 4-10 pm (38% of downloads/listens).
Overall, in the U.S. 7-8 am and 9-10 pm are consistently the top performing hours for podcast listening.
