Every year Libsyn’s Vice President of Podcaster Relations (and PBJ editorial board member) Rob Walch makes his podcasting industry predictions for the upcoming year. Walch made his 2019 predictions this past weekend on The Feed, The Official Libsyn Podcast, which he hosts with Elsie Escobar. Here’s what Walch says will happen in 2019.

#1) Walch’s top prediction is that IAB V2 certifications will start rolling out offering the industry a long overdue universal metric standard for what is a download.

#2) We will see both Google and Pandora podcast both making a push to be in the top 5 spot for podcast consumption. Regardless of who the top spot goes to, at the end of 2019, it will be the first year podcasters can finally say, ’listen to my podcast wherever you listen to audio.'

#3) We’ll hear a lot of talk about CCPA and privacy issues will once again be brought to the forefront again especially for those ad services that like to stalk IP addresses.

We’ll check back in with Rob in late December to see how he did with his predictions for the year. Listen to the latest episode of The Feed HERE.
