Huw Drury from Australian podcast company bitesz.com tells PBJ the reason they launched The Classic Film Club was they wanted to help cinema fans who face the dilemma of deciding which old movies hold up for today’s viewing and which just don’t make it any more.

Drury tells PBJ, “Like a good book club, we wanted to create a community of movie fans to talk and share ideas on what movies they love and why.

They also created a Facebook group.

The show is hosted by International film critic Richard Kuipers

The podcast focuses on revisiting the Classic movies and evaluating them again through modern eyes…which ones hold up, what doesn’t? Kuipers ferrets out hidden gems that may have been forgotten with the passing of time.

Drury explains where the idea for the podcast came from. “The idea came about one Saturday night while I was trying to figure out what to watch. I was in the mood for a classic…but which one? How do you know which ones are any good still? And I figured there must be other people facing the same dilemma. I finally settled on ‘To Catch A Thief’ and was glad I did.

The first episode of the podcast takes a look at Citizen Kane and asks if it’s still the greatest movie ever made? Episode 2 takes a look at Marilyn Monroe’s career focusing on three of her movies from various phases of her career. The third episode takes an in-depth look at Alfred Hitchcock and his lasting influence on movie making.
