The Los Angeles Times announced their new daily podcast The Times: Daily News from the L.A. Times hosted by L.A. Times columnist Gustavo Arellano “will offer a perspective on the day’s news through a California lens.”
According to Digiday, Julia Turner, deputy managing editor for entertainment, audio, and strategy at L.A. Times, “many trends in the news and American life and politics “emerge in California first,” and they’ll focus on that in addition to entertainment and culture.
The times hired three engineers to work on the show which will feature reported pieces, interviews from the field, and in-studio interviews with newsmakers.
No stranger to podcasts, the LA Times has produced Dirty John in conjunction with Wondery in addition to several others and has planned new seasons of existing shows and the upcoming The Trials of Frank Carson planned.
“The Times” will be the LA Times’ flagship podcast, and serve as “an ambassador for our newsroom” and “a big megaphone for the kind of work that we do day in and day out,” Turner said.
