Witness Docs, part of Stitcher, officially announced their new investigative series Toxic: The Britney Spears Story. Hosts Tess Barker and Babs Gray, who followed Britney online for years, used the #FreeBritney hashtag to launch a movement.

Unofficially, the details of the show were first revealed by the hosts in a Clubhouse conversation with fans.

The germ for this show started in 2017 when comedians Tess Barker and Babs Gray launched their comedy podcast Britney’s Gram that explored in a comedic way Britney’s cryptic Instagram posts. As they kept looking deeper they realized there was a mystery there that will be further revealed when the show premieres.

“Look, only Britney can really tell her own story,” Babs said to the Clubhouse participants. “But we feel we can tell a version of the story of how she got into her conservatorship because we’ve studied the hell out of it.”

In their new show Toxic, the pair plan to lay out everything they found out about Britney Spears from her father’s conservatorship over her finances, and the fans struggle to end it.

“This system is built on the idea that anybody who wants to be a conservator is operating from a good place,” Tess told the Clubhouse participants. “Unfortunately, based on what we know about humanity at large, that’s not a good policy.”
