Katherine Turk, a history professor at UNC-Chapel Hill led her class in a project to recount the history of women at the college called Climbing the Hill that became an online exhibit, a campus tour, and a podcast of the same name.

The project was never intended to be a podcast, but the disruption of the pandemic, as it did for so many others, changed their plans.

In making the project her students combed the database of the Southern Oral History Program and gave her 70 hours of interviews that she put together to make the show.

Their goal is to “document women’s history of progress, resilience, and creativity on campus, as well as the inequalities that remain.”
