Seriously? You Don't Have A Website.

(By Troy Price) I am shocked by the number of podcasts that do not have their own websites! There are many podcasts that rely on the podcast feed from their media host to serve as their home on the internet. Try to post a picture from your latest recording and see how that works for you. Or, try to talk to someone about your show when you are outside of wifi or cell phone signal. You just saying, “Search for me in your podcast app” will rarely make it to their long-term memory. However, they are much more likely to remember if you say, “Just go to mybuddytroyspodcast.com”.

Also, with your own website you can create a more engaging experience for people interested in your show than that feed page. You can have one place where people can see your gallery of awesome pictures and subscribe to your show and buy a t-shirt and leave a comment and build community without requiring your fans to go to several different services to engage with you.

Here is the rub… You want the name of your podcast to be very close to the name of your website. Identical names are the best, but that requires planning. When you are starting out and thinking about the name for your podcast, see if your podcast name is available as a domain name. And, if the domain is not available consider changing the name… of your podcast. People will know where to find you. And there is a lot of power in Google searches for podcasts with their title in their domain names.

If you have read to the end of this article, you deserve a reward. Here is an example of the above principle that one reader will have the chance to capitalize upon. There is a podcast success story that is taking place before our eyes right now. There was a podcast named, Limetown. It was reimagined to a book. And a reimagining of Limetown will shortly appear in your Facebook feed with an A-List star serving as the protagonist. If you were a fan of the original podcast or want to have a fan podcast about the upcoming show on Facebook Watch, now is the time to launch it. You could produce the “Limetown Fan Podcast” and own “limetownfanpodcast.com”. As of this writing that domain is still available and will serve as a great home online for the right podcast producer.

When you secure that domain name please comment below with you plans for your podcast!

I 100% agree. I see a lot of people asking how to grow their show and then add that they don’t have a website, or ask if they should have a website. Get a website! We were fortunate to be able to get our exact show name as a domain and all social media accounts, and it really helps with marketing. Since a website and social media are free (or at least inexpensive) you should definitely leverage all of these to promote your content.

I totally agree. Because I only had a landing page for 3 years, I really missed out on connecting with my audience, email addresses and yes, the enhanced overall experience of what Her Business is all about.

Thanks for commenting, Tim! What are the best ways you have leveraged your website or your social media presence to drive people to your podcast?

Thanks for commenting, Margo! I am curious, how did you do promotion without a landing page? What did you do that was successful?
