From the parent company of Podcast Websites, a new hosting company is launching called Captivate.fm. Rebel Base Media has announced the new hosting brand will be available in January. You can pre-register now at www.captivate.fm.

CEO Mark Asquith says, “Captivate was born as part of the Rebel Base Media suite of podcasting tools. But, we’re not going to do things the same as everyone else.”

We reached out to Mark to ask him a few questions about the new hosting company.

PBJ: Why launch a hosting company. Mark Asquith: Simply put, people asked us for it! We’ve always been a podcast hosting company but our platform was only available as part of the Podcast Websites platform offering. We get emails every single day asking for the same levels of personal service that we’re renowned for, but who just need podcast hosting. That was the main catalyst back in 2017 when we decided to move forward with Captivate.

PBJ: How is your hosting company going to be better than those on the market now? Mark Asquith: Better is subjective. We use the same content delivery networks as the incumbents in the industry, for example, and being a podcast hosting company is actually something that being “better” at doesn’t really matter because it’s really a commodity piece - we need a host to be a podcaster.

Rather, we have built Captivate with the same approach that we have with everything from Rebel Base Media, by asking “What do podcasters need, that no one is really giving them? What matters to them the most and how can Captivate help podcasters to grow?” As a podcast host, we have a responsibility to help podcasters towards their version of success and to become that audio influencer in their niche. Captivate has been built around that core ideal from day one.

PBJ: You state: “We’re not going to do things the same as everyone else.” What do you mean by that? Mark Asquith: You can barely split the podcast hosts on the market by a hair. They’re great. But they don’t actively help podcasters to gain influence and grow the numbers that matter to them, be that downloads or something else. Captivate does.

PBJ: How did you come up with the name? Mark Asquith: Rebel Base Media’s Head of Marketing, Jessica Kupferman and I were discussing names for something we’re working on together and Jess threw out the name “Captivate”. It struck me as perfect for what we’re looking to achieve for podcasters with our hosting platform and it stuck immediately.
