Report: Females Driving Listening Increases

Nielsen says women are driving significant gains in podcast engagement. According to the ratings firm, data it compiled from July through December of 2021 shows that since 2018, the number of female podcast listeners has increased by 76% and 41% since the beginning of the pandemic.

Nielsen also reported this week that in the four years since Nielsen established its Podcast Buying Power service, the number of heavy female podcast listeners—those who listen 10+ times per month—has increased by 90%.

Additional stats the ratings firm released this week from its 2021 data: 73% of female listeners can recall the brand after exposure from a podcast ad and 54% of female listeners find podcast content interesting.
