Those are the words of John Biewen, audio program director at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and host of the podcast Scene on Radio, in an article he’s written in NiemanLab.
Biewen is an expert at long-form, in-depth, documentary audio, and he believes that the recent explosion in podcast listening is a sign that the medium - which skews young - has listeners saying: ‘Yes, thank you. Take me on a journey.’ “We’re going to take our time, dig into corners, get into the weeds? Sign me up.”
Biewen says a lot of people are hungry for substance and attention spans are quite intact. Biewen’s prediction for 2019 is more podcast series. “They’ll keep getting better, smarter, deeper, and more varied.”
