Podcasts Boom In India During Pandemic

A report from Business Insider today reveals the rise of podcasting in India over the last year.

Spotify launched 30 Original podcasts last year in India, in multiple languages - English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Spotify podcasts in India don’t have advertising, but brands like Bumble India have created and promoted their own podcasts to tie in with their brand.

KPMG, an independent research firm, says that “India is the third-largest podcast-listening market globally and is expected to be valued at INR 17.62 Cr by 2023, growing at a CAGR of 34.5%.”

Amarjit Singh Batra, Managing Director of Spotify in India says “there’s been an 80x increase in the number of podcasts created on Anchor in India in the span of just a year, making India one of the fastest-growing markets for the platform.”

The rise of podcasting in India proves that demand for audio content is rapidly growing globally.
