And millenials are the group of Americans most addicted to them, according to new data released by Jacobs Media in their 2020 TechSurvey.

The Jacobs Media Techsurvey of over 500 radio stations resulted in 46,000 responses from radio listeners, in every format, and from across the country.

Here are some of the podcasting specific responses from the 91-page presentation Fred Jacobs made from his basement bunker in Detroit.

The survey revealed that 26% of Americans now listen to podcasts weekly. That’s up from 20% in 2016.

44% have never listened to a podcast. That number is down quite dramatically from last year. In 2019 49% said they never listened. When Jacobs drilled down into the 44% group the found that the biggest reason they didn’t listen was they just weren’t interested in listening to a podcast. 32% of the respondents said they weren’t interested in talk programs. 19% said they didn’t have time. 18 % said they don’t know how to listen. And, 16% said they don’t know how to find a podcast.

Of those that do listen, 80% are listening on their smartphones.
