51-year old Ear Hustle co-host Rahsaan Thomas has had his sentence commuted by California Governor Gavin Newsom. The podcast is produced inside San Quentin State Prison where Thomas is an inmate.

The decision allow Thomas to immediately go before the state parole board, which will decide if he should be released on parole. The board already recommended the clemency grant.

Thomas was serving a 55 1/2 years-to-life sentence for a second-degree murder conviction back in 2000. He was charged with fatally shooting one person and injuring another in a drug deal gone bad. Thomas claimed it was self-defense.
