Author and business owner Sara Wachter-Boettcher and publishing CEO Katel LeDû are the co-hosts of Strong Feelings. The show is about work, ambition, and friendship—with a feminist lens. After getting about a thousand messages from listeners who said they wished they had a place to have conversations like they have on the show, the two best friends decided to create one.

Collective Strength is a community for “feminist realtalk about work, ambition, and belonging.” The first event is today (Wednesday) and it’s all about fair pay and negotiating. Wachter-Boettcher tells PBJ they’re expecting over 100 people to attend the event, and already have 272 people who have joined the Meetup group.

Wachter-Boettcher explains the concept of the new organization. “We think most career advice for women sucks. It’s all about ’leaning in’ and faux-empowerment, and it doesn’t get into what actually stands in our way, or make enough space for the messy feelings we need to process as we navigate choices. And women’s networking events never seem to want to engage on tough topics, like race or mental health. So we don’t want to just host more mixers with little wine glasses and shallow positivity. We want to host honest, intimate conversations about things like handling toxic work environments, pivoting a career, or being a working mom—while addressing how things like race and class affect so much about these topics. And we’ll be bringing in a range of guest experts to help us do that.”
