In a series of tweets, National Slate editor Josh Levin has accused The Dollop hosts Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds of not attributing a 2013 article he wrote for Slate called Welfare Queen.

Levin says it took him a year of reporting with primary and secondary sources. Levin accuses Anthony and Reynolds of lifting some of his researched material for a live show they did in 2017 (three years after his article came out). The title of the live show was The Welfare Queen. Tickets to the show were $25 and 900 people attended. Here’s part of Levin’s Twitter thread:

I’ll never understand this. Why would you not credit the author of a piece? It’s not like your listeners are going to suddenly stop listening if you give someone credit. People are listening for the CONTENT- not who WROTE it. I continually use material from other sources for my storytelling podcast and I always credit the authors both in the show notes and verbally in the audio file. Not once have I ever had a listener complain that they thought I was the researcher and author of all the stories I share. Not once.
