Following the President being banned from Twitter and Parler being removed from the app store by Apple, The Associated Press has set its sites on podcasts, publishing a story that says that the podcasting platform is now the place for “misinformation, bullying and rule breaking.”
The story points out that podcaster RedPill78 called the Capitol siege a staged event and The X22 Report published an episode about a Trump second term. The AP also plucked a statement from a SoulWarrior Uncensored podcast where host Melody Torres, a QAnon follower, says her podcast is “just my way of not being censored.” A search for Melody’s podcast for our story trned up an error page on Anchor and Apple Podcasts said her podcast was no longer available. It is available on Listen Notes.
Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism’s Oren Segal said, “Podcasts filled with hatred and incitement to violence should not be treated any differently than any other content,” Segal said. “If you’re going to take a strong stance against hate and extremism in the platform in any way, it should be all-inclusive.”
