NPR reports on how grief can be a powerful conduit for art as jazz singer Nnenna Freelon made both the album Time Traveler and the podcast Great Grief launching June 4 as a way to process losing her husband Phil Freelon.

“Time became both an enemy and a friend because it was very, very lonely, and it seemed like the hours just stretched on forever. No reason to do anything, even get out of bed,” she says. “And slowly, slowly, I began to look at the time that I had and try to find containers to put my grief in.”

A trailer and snippet are available while the podcast will run weekly.
