Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone’s lawsuit against podcaster Kirk Minihane and Barstool Sports has been dismissed. Minihane recorded an interview with Curtatone while pretending to be Boston Globe columnist Kevin Cullen. The Mayor believed Minihane broke the law by not telling him who he really was.
Minihane conducted an 18-minute interview with Curtatone back in 2019 without revealing who he really was.
Curtatone filed the lawsuit in June of 2019
Superior Court Judge Maureen Hogan dismissed the lawsuit because it was not a secret recording, which would have violated state law. Hogan ruled that just because Curtatone thought Minihane was someone else didn’t matter. Hogan wrote that Curtatone did have knowledge that he was being recorded and that is all the law requires.
