iHeartMedia in collaboration with Will Packer Media debuted The Lower Bottoms, an audio drama about a gentrified neighborhood in Oakland, California narrated by actor Kelsey Grammer. The Lower Bottoms brings you into the heart of a growing conflict among the people who live there.
The ten-episode series launches July 20th and represents the first joint venture between the two companies since their recently announced compact together.
The trailer opens with a backbeat of horns and drums before moving to a woman desperately trying to get into a house because she’s being chased. Kelsey Grammer appears in the middle and says “The Lower Bottoms being a small neighborhood often lends itself to serendipitous encounters between friends, acquaintances, and adversaries.” Then the soundtrack of jazz and hip-hop blends with sounds of voices in the neighborhood with some planning violence and some planning political action before the trailer fades out.
Kelsey Grammer has some connection to San Francisco (which is across from Oakland) where notably the end of his television series Frasier ends with the character accepting a job to move from Seattle to San Francisco. He also once sang with the San Francisco symphony orchestra.
