Aniyha Jones is the host of the You’re Wrong, Sir Podcast. After going through an extreme period of self discovery she decided to start a podcast. This is Aniyha’s story…

Here’s my story: During the summer of 2020, I went through an extreme period of self discovery & self improvement. I had just finished up my freshman year at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign & I was definite I wanted to work in sports. I began listening to various podcasts such as Million Dollar Life Lessons, All The Smoke, Lewis Howes, etc. May 18th, 2020 was when my journey truly began. I watched an episode of All The Smoke and realized that 2 hours of my time had passed. I was so shocked that I watched hosts speak on a topic for 2 hours that I have daily conversations about. At that moment, I decided I wanted to start a podcast.

I wanted to start You’re Wrong, Sir because I noticed that for the majority of sports podcasts there were no women leading/hosting them. It bothered me and triggered emotions I felt as a little girl. Being athletic as a girl wasn’t easy because I always had to prove myself. Prove that I was capable of playing basketball & prove that I was knowledgeable of the sport. To stand out as a woman in sports it’s vital to understand concepts & knowledge within the industry that many don’t expect you to know. I wanted my podcast to represent many women across the industry but most importantly educate and have conversations that bigger platforms such as BleacherReport & ESPN aren’t willing to have. Hence why one of my taglines for the podcast is “Unapologetic. Uncensored. Unfiltered.”

Starting this podcast was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. It has helped me network with a myriad of individuals, inspire other women, but most importantly differentiate myself from the thousands of  people who desire to work in sports. Along the way I’ve had conversations with some of the most influential individuals in sports today such as Taylor Rooks, Chanelle Smith Walker, Kendall Gill, Kendrick Green, & many more.

Each Friday I released episodes and I’ve seen so much growth over the past year and a half. This is a journey I believe is worth it and I can’t wait to continue to educate the African American community.
