Johnny’s podcast company, Straight Up is two years old. He says building the company and getting to do what he loves to do every day has been the experience of a lifetime. Here are three things he’s learned along the way…
#1) “The first thing that I want to emphasize is that you need to LOVE podcasting. There are a lot of people who see the dollar signs in podcasting and go in for the cash. Just like any other career path, they fade quickly when the money doesn’t come barreling through the door on day 1.”
#2) “The second thing you need is a service that people are willing to pay for. Are you a full-service production company? Do you have a studio that people rent out to record? Do you edit podcasts? Do you help market shows & build up audiences? Pick what fits best for your skillset and get really good at it.”
#3) The third thing is that you need operating capital, meaning that this job may have to start as a side hustle until it’s bringing in enough to go full-time. You can also look at getting business loans or go raise money from friends, family, or mentors.
