After seeing this picture, which The Crime Junkie team posted to their Instagram page, we heard from former Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reporter Cathy Frye. Here’s what she had to say about the photo…
“Hi, I’m Cathy Frye, the journalist who called out “Crime Junkie.” Just letting you know that my former newspaper, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, announced today that is pursuing legal action against “Crime Junkie.” Also Interesting – take a look at “Crime Junkie’s” most recent Instagram post. It’s pretty much a middle-finger “salute” to journalists.”

I’ve agreed with Frye until this cartoon. This has nothing to do with journalists. If anything it’s a knock at true crime podcasters.

The cartoon is actually funny commentary about how a police interview can end up being presented in a podcast. How does that equate to a “middle finger salute” to journalists? I must be missing something.
