With the popularity of sports and the dominance of ESPN in covering sports, a betting person would say that podcasts put out by the broadcast giant would be a success. And they’d win that bet. Here are some of the stats…
In July, ESPN Podcasts drew 5.8 million in U.S. unique audience, up 17 percent from July 2018. That’s the seventh consecutive month of year-over-year growth.
Content created specifically for podcasts grew their downloads 25 percent compared to July 2018. The July increases were led by listenership of FiveThirtyEight: Politics, The Lowe Post with host Zach Lowe, the Le Batard and Friends network which launched earlier this year, and the debut of The Woj Pod from NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. In fact, the busy NBA off-season drove The Lowe Post to a new single-day high on July 6. Overall, downloads for The Lowe Post were up 17 percent.
More proof that podcasting is here to stay – as if any was needed.
