Lena Dunham’s The C-Word, a new podcast from Luminary, will be released on Saturday, May 11. Hosted by Dunham and Alissa Bennett, The C-Word will explore the life and media coverage of women who have been deemed “crazy” by society, and unpacks the lives of messy, fascinating women with empathy and humor.
The hosts said, “If there is one thing that America loves even more than a comeback victory, it’s baring witness to the catastrophic public descent of a woman. American culture lustily consumes almost any downward spiral: a pop star whose life eventually proves not to be as ideal as we all thought; an ex-girlfriend with murder on her mind; an actress whose acrylic image belies her private tumult. On The C-Word, we look at the rumors and innuendos that inevitably crop up around these stories, we examine our own appetites for bad endings, and we use our personal experiences to examine how most of us can relate in some way to the women who society has derided and defamed.”
Lena Dunham is an actor, writer, director, producer, and philanthropist. She starred in and served as executive producer, writer, and director for HBO’s hit series Girls, which aired for six critically acclaimed seasons. She has been nominated for eight Emmy Awards and has won two Golden Globes, including Best Actress for her work on Girls.
Alissa Bennett is the author of the twice-yearly zine Dead is Better, which investigates the relationship between our attraction to the lurid underbelly of popular culture and our own personal experiences.
