There are a number of new “Podcasting 2.0” features in podcasting; and we’re able to monitor the use of some of them using data from the Podcast Index.
Transcripts
While all podcasts in Apple Podcasts have transcripts, creators can submit transcripts with the RSS feed to ensure spelling is correct, and to add named speakers; and Apple Podcasts can be instructed to prefer creator-written transcripts instead of the automated ones it uses. Today, xxx podcasts have creator-produced transcripts in them, which any podcast app can display. That's a total of xxx episodes with creator-supplied transcripts.
Funding tag
A simple link to a funding mechanism, like a PayPal page or a page on Patreon, is possible through RSS and many smaller podcast apps will display this. Today, xxx podcasts are using these links.
"Super" Chapters
While chapters can be embedded into audio files, that means that if you want to edit those chapter files (perhaps to incorporate feedback from your audience or other elements), you need to re-upload the audio. So-called super-chapters, which are JSON files linked from the RSS feed, are displayed in a number of apps including Pocket Casts, make it easier to edit chapters without altering the audio files. Today, xxx podcasts have these available.
