The true-crime podcast Appalachian Mysteria returns for a mini-season today. These episodes investigate the Huntington Mall sexual assault cases in West Virginia from 1987 when two women were abducted in a mall parking lot.

The crimes shocked West Virginia and baffled law enforcement officers who wondered how this could happen in their quiet community. A local gravedigger with a sordid past seems like the obvious suspect, but was it him, or was he the first pawn in this sick game?

Appalachian Mysteria is a production of Jam Street Media/Amaze Media Labs and Kromatic Media. Season three is coming in January 2022, titled “Outlandish” It features the murder of a lesbian couple along the Appalachian Trail that opens a world of disturbing, interconnected stories — from the first hate crime prosecution in the nation’s history to a series of child abductions that span central Virginia.
