Anchor is launching an advertising platform called Sponsorships. The company says the program will help podcasters get paid by matching them with sponsors and help them create custom ads for their shows.
Anchor says any U.S.-based podcaster can opt to turn on Sponsorships in any, or all, episodes. The platform will then find a sponsor match based on factors like subject matter, audience size, location, and more. Podcasters will be notified when a match is found and always have the choice to opt into that sponsorship or decline and wait for a new match if that sponsor was not the right fit.
Once a sponsor is accepted, publishing the ad takes a few minutes and is built directly into Anchor’s creation tools. You can either record through Anchor’s website or mobile apps, or import a prerecorded version. Podcasters choose exactly where ads will fit into their episodes.
Campaign timeframes are set by the sponsor and Anchor says podcasters get paid as soon as the ads are heard by listeners. Rates are based on a CPM set by the sponsor, and Anchor takes 30% of the transaction. Podcasters can cash out their balance directly to any bank account or debit card at any time through Anchor’s payment partner Stripe. Stripe takes a $0.25 fee on withdrawal transactions. Podcasters are notified of the CPM details before opting into the campaign. Once the campaign is published, they’re paid based on that CPM for however many plays the episode gets.
